What - Disabled Living, based in Greater Manchester, has given an invaluable service to disabled people of all ages for over 110 years. Today, we offer a comprehensive range of services to improve the quality of life of disabled people, their families and carers. The Disabled Living Equipment Centre provides advice and information about equipment and products to help people make a more informed choice that will enable easier, safer and more independent living. Other services include: Training - on most aspects of disability and which is aimed at professional and informal carers; PromoCon – a comprehensive resource and confidential help-line (0161 834 2001) for people with bladder and bowel problems and the Sensurround offers multi sensory experiences.

Disabled Living provides employment related services that include: Ways 2 Work, which prepares disabled people for employment, and Open for Business, which is aimed at helping smaller organisations make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements. We are active in the community through presentations, information days and exhibitions. We organise the only two UK exhibitions totally dedicated to disabled children, Kidz up North’, which is held in November at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton and 'Kidz South' which is held at the Rivermead Centre, Reading in June.

Disabled Living needs to raise approximately £2,500 every day through voluntary contributions, legacies, trusts, trading and fundraising activities, which amounts to a total of £900,000 a year. It is only with this type of support that Disabled Living can continue to provide this wide range of high quality services for disabled people, their families and carers.

The Equipment Centre has thousands of products on display all designed with disabled and older people in mind. You can see and try items at your leisure, you'll find everything from  beds, baths and seating to wheelchairs, cushions and kitchen tools. Staff are on hand to provide impartial professional advice and information to help you make the best choice. We also have specialist advisors on continence and pressure care products. If  you would like to visit it's always best to make an appointment so you can be sure a member of staff is available for you. If a visit is not convenient you can write or 'phone for the sort of information that is hard to find. Often people rely on adverts in newspapers and magazines which can be misleading. We can help with fuller independent information  what's available and where, best buys, maintenance, service and so on. We also have regular varied training programmes related to disability  and care issues   there are often free places on offer! Tailor made courses also provided at Disabled Living, or a venue of your choice. Moving and Handling a speciality.

We no longer run a holiday service but in order that we can still help older and disabled people seeking holiday and leisure activities we have put together an information holiday pack.

The holiday information pack can be downloaded here and viewed off-line using the latest version of Adobe Reader which is available free from the adobe web site .
